Which motorcycle is better? 125,300 cc or 500 cc or beyond!

500 cc motorcycle is much better. Do not get me wrong, bigger is not always better. It is way more complicated than just the numbers, there’s a lot more involved in it.

500cc motorcycle has got enough power to do pretty much everything you want to do, but still it will let you be safe on road.

When you are riding a motorcycle, you want to have control. If the motorcycle is too powerful and super heavy you could easily loose control.

All the major motorcycle companies which would have never chosen to make small bikes are now making motorbikes for the smaller segment as these are very popular. They are safe for people and affordable to buy and maintain.

Harley Davidson when launched their 500cc motorcycle, that was a massive hit world wide as many people want Harley but they can’t afford one as they are super expensive. But this Harley Street 500 was well priced for anyone to buy.

Which motorcycles are we talking about?

We are generally talking about the bikes based on their engine capacity. There are heaps of great bikes in every category, some will be great and some will not be as good. In this article we are having a run through around the different sizes of bikes that are out there.

Who is riding the bike?

It all depends on the person who is going to ride the bike, he has to be comfortable. If the person is new to bikes, smaller bikes are better as they are very easy to manoeuvre. And you can control them just in case something happens.

If we talk about body size, if it is a big guy, he would be too big for a small bike. In this case the rider will not be comfortable. Riding is all about comfort. If you are uncomfortable you can not concentrate on the road and ride safely.

Tip-Motorcycle riding from my experience is all about concentration, comfort and no distraction. I tried listening to music while riding that wasn’t a great idea for me as it is a massive distraction, you should be able to hear your surroundings to be safe. Now I love riding without music, I can focus better.

What kind of riding position does the rider prefers?

I prefer upright position while riding a bike. If I have to ride a sports bike where I will be leaning forward, I would not be comfortable and I would not enjoy riding the bike. It’s all about having fun while being safe.

There are many different style of bikes like sports, adventure, touring, naked, dirt bikes etc. you need to find out what suits you the best.

Why I prefer 500 cc bikes?

It’s my personal experience of riding a 500cc bike for over a year and riding different bikes for 10 years, it will be different for different people.

500 cc bikes have twin engine, which makes the bike go smooth. It has the capacity to go long distances. It’s bigger, heavier and more stable compared to smaller motorcycles.

If you are travelling on long distances, like highways. you need a bike that can perform. You can’t have a motorcycle that doesn’t let you do what you intend to do, then you will end up upgrading your motorcycle which can be very expensive and time consuming process.

I have ridden 250cc bike, it can get you by but at certain times you be missing the power, while going up the hills or if you have a passenger.

Don’t get me wrong, even 125cc bikes are great for local city riding, as the roads in suburban areas have speed around 60 and these bikes can easily go upto 80–90 kms per hour. They are super cheap on fuel too.

If you are getting a cheap bike for now and will upgrade, may as well get a smaller bike. If you are only riding around town, even a 50cc will get you by.

I have seen lots of people who started with 250/300cc and soon they want to upgrade as it is not enough. Especially if you are doing some serious riding in Australia where you have to go on highways at times, a smaller bike is lacking on such fast roads when you are riding besides big trucks, you want to feel safe on such roads.

My purpose was to find a proper motorcycle that can do everything that a bigger bike can do. Because I did not want to upgrade after few months.

Why not a bigger bike?

It’s the same story when is it enough, how much power is enough? When you have a powerful bike, in a throttle it can go far up-to 100kms in seconds. I think that too much power is a lot to handle. And remember most bigger bikes are heavier at the same time, they cost more money to maintain them. A lot more than a car.

There’s a bigger market after 500cc bikes, 650–700cc bikes these are too much for a learner approved motorcycle.

Then 1000cc bikes that’s where the big bikes begin. then 1200cc bikes. Most Harley’s, triumphs, bmws have bikes in that range of 1200–1600cc. It doesn’t stop here. You got the big cruisers 1700,1900,2200ccs they are called 2.2 that’s bigger than most cars on the road.

Why i love my 500cc Honda Cb motorcycle ?

The roads are not built to go faster than 100kms p/hr. So this 500cc hits 100kms in few seconds. Imagine if you have 4–5 times more power, that will be out of control. You can’t go any faster than the speed limits, unless you want to get booked.

500cc bikes can perform, they are super easy to handle and are easy to maintain.

Conclusion

Each individual has their own preferences, and what kind of motorcycle they can afford.

Finding the right motorcycle is very important. When you are looking to get one make sure you do your research well and try few bikes before you pick one.
