Social Media- Turning People Anti-Social
Since the invention of social media, it has changed how people interact with each other. People prefer to say things in front of a computer instead of saying something on to the face of the person. Even on special occasions like birthdays, people rather send a GIF and it is done, by the way, a GIF is an animated image which people share all over the social media.
It was so weird when I saw a family in a cafe Husband, wife and two kids, they all were on their phones entire time even while eating their meals. People don’t even have time for their family. I see people talking to each other face to face with the phone in the hand, so while having a chat they keep checking the phone, so this way they are not paying anywhere. Someone did this to me, I stopped them and told them to check their phone first because you ask them something they don’t respond as they are looking on their phone. No one wants to catch up anymore when you can rather make a group and chat through your phone. It is not good how people keep scrolling through Facebook, trying to find something meaningful but there isn’t much excitement. It basically is stalking others, watching what they do, where they have been, it is all done in a weird way that is not fun.
And not to mention, the problem is not just Facebook, I mean Facebook is a problem which we can not get rid off as it keeps buying all the other social media platforms that try to compete with Facebook. It’s like a mafia of social media.
A lot of people say I got nothing to lose, I only share what I want people to see. So you have to filter your content and make sure you don’t post something that you don’t want your colleagues to see as you were on sick leave and you forgot and posted photos on the beach. You get caught. You can’t say what you like either because it might offend someone on social media. Only say what is not too strong, you do not want to upset someone or you will be blocked from using it. It is out of control.
It’s not just Facebook that people are hooked on, there are heaps more like Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter and it goes on. On average people use about 10 of these apps. Imagine how much valuable time it is wasting. It becomes a habit of just getting on these apps and checking for any notification updates. It took me a while to get rid off this habit. The best way is to slowly reduce the time that you spend on social media as it stops you to something productive.
So what you should do is: Watch the time you spend on your social media. Be aware and slowly you will be able to control your social media habits, instead of letting it control you.
There is another side of Social Media, which is very beneficial for businesses or if you are an artist who is willing to reach the audience.
