Smoothies
Smoothies are fun. Smoothies are easy to make, you can take them with you on the go. You can replace a meal and have a smoothie instead. Smoothies are filling too. There are so many recipes out there and you can create your own. You can get creative and make so many types of smoothies. You can add fruits, vegetables, greens, nuts.
To make a smoothie you need a smoothie blender like Nutri Bullet. This blender is $79 Aud, which is pretty good for what it does.
It looked up on Google what vegetables can I put in a smoothie? There were heaps, the first one surprised me. It was capsicum. I thought no way, capsicum might be weird. But I thought why not give it a go. So I added about 8 strawberries, some frozen mixed berries and half capsicum. It turned out really yummy. So capsicum is a good option in smoothies. Same way cucumber, beetroot, carrot and many more vegetables are great in a smoothie.
What is great in a smoothie?
My favourite thing in a smoothie is a banana. It tastes great and makes a thick smoothie.
Strawberries are fantastic in smoothies, very yummy taste.
Also handful of other berries like blueberries, raspberries, blackberries. I usually get frozen berries, they are great.
Apple is great in smoothies. It is a great filler, thickens the smoothies really well.
Any protein powder like whey or vegan protein works. If you exercise protein shakes are great to boost your energy back up.
When I started making smoothies, I used to put yoghurt or any type of milk like lite, almond, soy, oat milk. They all work. But what works better than any of these is water. I prefer smoothies made with water, it helps to dilute it a bit too. As all the fibrous vegetables and fruits can make the smoothies very thick.
Another new thing I started adding to my smoothie is, Ginger. It makes a massive difference to the taste, adds that freshness to it. I highly recommend it.
What I suggest is play around with different ingredients and see what do you prefer, try different vegetables and fruits for tangy/sweet/healthy/green smoothies.
Ingredients like beetroot, all greens, carrots etc. are good as they have a bright colour and it helps in making things interesting.
