A lot of people are struggling while sharing go pro videos to the cloud. I was one of them to start with. It is nearly impossible to upload videos, the way it is intended by Go pro.

What Go pro suggests is auto-upload your videos to the Gopro cloud from the go pro itself when it is connected to wifi and plugged in to charge. So when this happens first thing is you can not use the go pro. Not even look at your content, you can not film anything. This can take hours, so it is holding you back from creating more content.

What Resolution to shoot videos in?

It is better to shoot in 5k/4k resolution it will be awesome quality, but remember this will take heaps of space and ages to upload, download and edit. Such high resolution would be good on massive screens, but if you are creating content for mainly mobile devices, that’s what people mainly use nowadays.

1080p is great quality, good size files. Easy to upload and download. Having a good quality video is important but it is more important for those videos to be user friendly by being easy to share and import.

I initially tried with 5k videos, most devices do not support them, and they are ten times bigger in sizes so they take ages to upload and download.

Auto upload is super slow. I don’t bother with it anymore. I transfer videos to my computer and edit them.

What’s the best setup?

At this stage I have deleted go pro app from my iPad which nearly took 50Gb out of 64Gb even after uploading everything and deleting it from the cloud. It is a brand new iPad and it had no space. So now it’s got heaps of room to do whatever I want.

I am using an old Macbook Pro mid 2012, that works perfectly fine with 1080p videos. I have edited 4 videos today in imovies and uploaded them to youtube without any trouble.

I am using 1080p as it is great quality, easy to work on and upload.
